ABOUT ME

I use storytelling to capture people’s attention and plain language to help them understand your message. Every organization has a story. I will help you communicate yours by creating messages that are clear, consistent, and relevant. Messages that are real, stay with your audience and keep them coming back.

I am a Mi'kmaw award-winning journalist, writer, and communications professional living in beautiful Elmastukwek, Ktaqmkuk (now Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador). I worked for 10 years as a print journalist and editor before leaping into freelance writing. My work is published in Today’s Parent, Saltscapes, Atlantic Business, East Coast Living, and Downhome magazines, CBC Newfoundland and Labrador, The Evening Telegram, The West Coast Wire, and several other Saltwire newspapers. I was twice a finalist for Atlantic Journalism Awards in the magazine and newspaper categories and received Canadian News Awards for Outstanding Editorial Achievement.

After more than 20 years working as a communications professional with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, Memorial University, Kids Eat Smart Foundation Newfoundland and Labrador, and other organizations, I returned to my first love – creating stories.

When not writing for my clients, I can be found hiking or snowshoeing (depending on the season), learning to run, or hanging out with my family – two daughters, one grandson, one very senior cat, and one husband. I am a lifelong learner currently working on a Diploma in Creative Writing. I have diplomas in Journalism, Adult Learning, and Post-Secondary Education. Certificates in Business Administration, and Post-Secondary Instruction. Twelve years after enrolling in my first university class I graduated with a Degree in Post-Secondary Education in 2020.

Awards I've won include:

  • Atlantic Journalism Awards finalist in magazine and newspaper categories

  • Canadian News Awards for Outstanding Editorial Achievement

  • Memorial University Medal of Academic Achievement

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT...I live on the unceded traditional lands of the following Indigenous tribes: the Beothuk, the Mi'kmaq, the Innu, and the Labrador Inuit.

I am grateful to those who cared for the land before us, and are proud to be able to work here on the traditional lands of my people, alongside the settlers of other nations of the world that came to K'Taqmkuk and stayed!
